Chosen, Day 5

A song called Chosen (by the Sidewalk Prophets) keeps playing in my head as we close out our week about being CHOSEN. The group was asked about the story behind their song. They replied:

Have you ever wondered at your heart’s core exactly who you are? I wrestle with it a lot. In fact, when we were sitting down to write this song, those were the thoughts going through my head; and then we opened up the Bible. 1 Peter 2:9 kind of lays it all out there… it says “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Whatever darkness you are walking through today, whatever the world is trying to define you as, know that God is the one that is the author and perfecter of our faith. Jesus sees you today… whatever you’re walking through, he sees you… Says “I love you”… and he chooses you. Believe it. – Dave Frey, Sidewalk Prophets

Take a minute to digest these lyrics from the song, Chosen:

What do you hear when you’re all alone?
(In your head a dead end)
Stranded at sea on a stepping stone
There’s a cloud inside you, it’s welling up
Your eyes are holding back a flood
It’s safe to come undone

You’re not worthless, you’re precious
You’re not left out, you’re wanted
You’re not invisible with your shining soul
Love has spoken, you are chosen

On the dark days of our lives when we probably wouldn’t choose ourselves, God does. The unchanging, omnipotent, creative, loving, merciful God chooses YOU. And would do it again over and over. Embrace it. Accept it. Love it!

Matthew 25 Challenge: Poverty has stolen these Guatemalan children’s choice ability. Today we pray for the whole experience for them and for us!

Prayer: Loving and faithful God, we are so thankful that You’d choose us all over again, even on our darkest days. We are never left out or alone with You on our side! Thank You, Lord! With much praise and thanksgiving! Amen!
