God's Not Dead

As Jesus was preparing His followers for the time when He would no longer be walking side-by-side with them, He told them, “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

When Jesus actually died, rose again, and ascended to the Father -- when people no longer saw Jesus walking around in their midst -- I’m sure some people thought God was dead – and some still think that today. But we believers know He was and is far from dead – more alive than we can imagine!

The chorus to the song, God’s Not Dead, says it well:

God’s not dead
He’s surely alive
He’s living on the inside
Roaring like a lion

Jesus was God WITH us – living, breathing, fully human, yet fully God. After He ascended to the Father, God sent us the Helper or Counselor Jesus spoke of, the Holy Spirit – who would be with us forever – fulfilling what Jesus said as He left this earth: “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

The Holy Spirit came into the hearts of believers and became God WITHIN us – living on the inside, roaring like a lion. Even though there is much mystery, as believers, we know Him, the Holy Spirit; and we have the opportunity to experience His presence in a multitude of ways – as He makes His home in us and empowers us.

This week as I share some personal ways I’ve sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit, I hope you’ll remember others that you have experienced. I hope you will be more aware of His Presence and His goodness, not just in extraordinary situations, but also in the ordinary moments of life. And I hope you will thank our heavenly Father for the blessing of the Holy Spirit, God WITHIN us.
