God's Love Is...

I am engaged to be married next year and therefore in the midst of planning a wedding – along with finishing my senior year of college. The other day I was reading 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and reflecting on how often we hear these verses at weddings:

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

These verses are all about loving others, but we really don’t know what love is until we know of the love of the One who created it.

God’s love is patient,
God’s love is kind,
God’s love does not envy or boast,
God’s love does not insist on its own way,
God’s love is not irritable or resentful,
God’s love does not rejoice in wrongdoing,
God’s love rejoices in truth,
God’s love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

That’s the kind of love we are to bring into a marriage; but it’s also the kind of love we are to exhibit in our lives whether we are married or not. These are characteristics of God’s love that He wants to see reflected in our lives.

But before we can reflect that kind of love, we need to be fully aware of His love for us. Do you realize how much God loves you? Do you think He can’t see you past your sin? Do you understand that He has amazing plans for you?

Pray for God to reveal His love to you.

Ask Him what is preventing you from knowing His love. “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns.” (Psalm 139:23)

And now… ask God to open your eyes to opportunities to show His love to others around you.
