“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

In - /in/ a position of influence with someone powerful or famous.

Oh friends, are y’all loving walking through the Great Commission word by word?  I sure am. Something with this much gravity deserves time to really sink in. In. See what I did there?

Jesus didn’t want there to be any room for us to mess it up. So, He spells it out. This isn’t just about baptizing. He could have stopped there, right? But, I think there is a reason He continued with “IN THE NAME” and spelled it out for us.

IN the name of the Father:  From the moment you were knit together your Father has been calling your sweet name. He already loved you and waits patiently for you to answer His call. By baptizing in this name, we give thanks for that in our salvation.

IN the name of the Son: This takes time to acknowledge that Jesus died for you. Yes, you. He took all of your sins long before your first breath knowing you’d need it and offered it as an amazing gift. By baptizing in this name, we give thanks for this gift.

IN the name of the Holy Spirit: Leading up to the moment of your salvation, the Holy Spirit convicted you. That tight pull in your gut is there for a purpose - so celebrate it and listen to it. So by baptizing in this name, we give thanks for the constant presence.

Are you all IN? Are you ready to bring those around you IN to an unleashed gospel?

Lord, thank You for calling us Yours, thank You for Your Son who calls us His sibling, and thank you for the Spirit calling us His home. We are all IN. Amen.
