Unlimited Supply

I just love to laugh. I believe wholeheartedly that when we were made in the image of God, sense of humor was one of the first traits He wanted to pass along. There are moments in life when God shows up and reveals His sense of humor. These verses demonstrate one of those times … but there is a message behind the funny:

“Before a young woman’s turn came to go into King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics. And this is how she would go to the king: Anything she wanted was given her to take with her from the harem to the king’s palace.” (Esther 2:12-13)

Now, y’all, these women were going to be paraded in front of the king. I get that it had to be scary; but for the love, twelve months of beauty treatments and six months of playing at the Sephora counter? Sign me up for that! It just makes me laugh! Don’t you wonder what the Lord wanted us to grasp from these verses that made it important to have in the Bible?

Of course, I don’t really know, but I want to look at the time. How much could we change in a year? There is a big call in our society right now for “self care.” Now, hear me, I do think it’s a great thing to take care of ourselves. But I’m going to start a movement about “soul care” – a movement in which we dedicate time, intention, and resources to our souls. Beauty and skin care is a 94 billion dollar a year industry. What if there was a serum for fearful thoughts? A moisturizer for dry seasons of sadness? An exfoliator for dead scaly memories you need to wash off your mind? How amazing would that be!

Friends, we have an unlimited supply of all the best resources needed in order to work on our souls -- unlimited hours of God’s ear, unlimited moments of being on His mind, Scriptures to lead and support us. So … let’s take some time to really prepare ourselves for the King.
