Courage To Be Transformed

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear.” - The Power of Moments, by Chip Heath & Dan Heath

In the story of Joseph, he didn’t live a life without fear. He learned how to lean into faith instead of being crippled by fear. He had the courage to learn from the lessons God was giving him in order to grow into the person he was created to be.

There are some books on my shelf that are covered in highlighter marks and full of post it notes. They are more than pages; they are resources I come back to over and over again for information or inspiration. “The Power of Moments” is one of those books. It’s full of great insight on embracing the power of milestones in our lives.

We never know how the moments of our days will impact the years. This book breaks it down to four types of moments:

  • Moments of elevation
  • Moments of insight
  • Moments of pride
  • Moments of connection

In his 110 years of life, Joseph had countless moments that I’m sure he shared with his children and grandchildren. And, aren’t we thankful we have these moments to learn from as well?

These lessons of leadership, faith, integrity, and forgiveness have lasted for centuries because they are powerful and necessary.

So, here’s the deal, I want all of the lessons from the life of Joseph to infiltrate my story too. I want to have the kind of faith that shows everyone around me that I recognize Who is writing my story and that I’m so thankful I get to be a part of it. I want my moments to be colored by a faith that proudly shouts, “Y’all, just watch and see! God is going to do something amazing here!”

How are you showing courage today to those around you?

What lessons from Joseph’s life impact you the most?

What are some of your most powerful moments?

How are you seeing God move you into the person He created you to be?

Lord, thank You for Joseph and for sharing the lessons of his life in your Word. Give us the courage to lean into faith and away from fear. And, so we’ll never forget, highlight those moments of life that have Your fingerprints all over them! We want to treasure each and every one. Amen.
